Sixty odd singlehanded boats, eager to begin the race and show off in the first outing of the season, creates an interesting scene at the start line. I was touched right on the line by a boat taking liberty with the rules but we crossed the line together on the gun right by the committee boat.

Qualified insanity

There are highs and lows in all parts of life, but these are certainly amplified by sailing a little boat a long way by oneself.The Mini 6.5 racing yachts like mine are designed specifically for doing long downwind races like the Transat later this year but because they are so optimised for one point of sail the quality of my day is directly dependent on the way the wind is blowing.
Out on a qualifier

I’m out sailing, and while I’m the only one allowed on the boat you can come along for the ride too. Using a SPOT tracker, I have created a page that is linked in the upper right corner of the homepage that will automatically update with my position as I sail from Pornichet to Ireland, to La Rochelle and back.
